Laconia High School’s
2015 Distinguished Alumni Award
is presented to
Jay Wittchow–Class of 1982
Don Marschall nominated Mr. Wittchow:
Jay was a standout athlete during his time at Laconia High School. Since then, Jay has dedicated countless hours to our local youth sports programs positively impacting the lives of many children in the Rosendale-Brandon community. He exhibits a no-nonsense approach with kids but he is able to have fun. He teaches kids discipline, values, and character through sports.
His role in the community expands beyond the athletic programs. In 2011, due to his leadership and respect in the community, Jay was asked by the Rosendale-Brandon School District to help facilitate the referendum community information meetings. In 2012, Jay was recognized by the Rosendale-Brandon Education Association as its Friend of Education for his efforts on behalf of the district and its students.
Overall, Jay is a great role model for the youth of our community.
Laconia High School’s
2014 Distinguished Alumni Award
is presented to
Trent Baalke–Class of 1982
William Miller, Sr. nominated Mr. Baalke and stated:
Trent Baalke was an outstanding student-athlete while at Laconia High School, but it is his accomplishments after graduation that make him deserving of recognition as outstanding alumni. He has advanced to the top of his profession in 16 years in the National Football League. Trent is currently in his third year as general manager of the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League, holding one of only 32 such positions available worldwide. The 49ers have reached the NFC championship game in each of the last three years under Trent’s leadership. He was recognized as 2011 NFL Executive of the year by Pro Football Weekly and Pro Football Writers of America.
Trent was also recognized as outstanding alumni of Bemidji State in 2011, the college where he received his bachelor degree with a double major in health and physical education. There he played football as a four-year starter at linebacker, earning 2-time All-Conference, and All-Midwest Region honor. He earned his Master’s Degree in secondary education and sports administration from North Dakota State, where he was also the strength and defensive line coach for the team that won the 1990 Division 2 National Championship.
Trent’s success story is a great example to the students of our school district showing that through education, hard work and personal growth, great things can be accomplished. Trent has not forgotten his hometown. He gave a speech to the students and residents of the district at Laconia in September of 2012, sharing his story and delivering a positive message to those in attendance. Trent has grown to become the kind of person that youth should look up to as a role model. Trent John Baalke inspires those that know him and would be a deserving outstanding alumni recipient.
